Ability Levels

All group lessons and multi-week programs are separated by ability level so you spend your time learning with others at your same speed.

Group Lessons are broken down into three levels:

First Timer = Level 1 skier/boarder (beginner)
Basic Turns = Level 2 – 3 skier/ boarder (beginner-intermediate)
Mountain Cruises = Level 4 – 5 skier/boarder (intermediate)

Kid’s Club Levels:

LEVEL 1 – RED LEVEL are 1st Timers. They cannot come to a stop on their own. They learn in the Adult Beginner area and/or on the Magic Carpet, while learning the basics of balancing and gliding on snow.

LEVEL 2 – YELLOW LEVEL are learning to balance, slow and stop. They take their first rides on the beginner chair lift after mastering the Adult Beginner area and/or the Magic Carpet area.

LEVEL 3 – GREEN LEVEL can turn left, right and make a complete stop. For boarders they can turn both toe and heel edge. They can ride the beginner chairlift with confidence and are getting ready to take their first rides on the Chinook Chair lift with the run Tinkerbell in mind.

LEVELS 4 & 5 – BLUE LEVEL are starting to explore harder green and easier blue runs. They learn to make advanced turns and explore more diverse terrain. These riders are introduced to a few variations that dramatically improve their ability to negotiate more difficult terrain.

LEVELS 6 & 7 – PURPLE LEVEL can make advanced turns, tackle all blue runs and are beginning to explore more adventurous terrain like skiing and riding off the groomed trails and in the bumps. This rider’s focus can also be to master the art of carving turns on the groomed runs.

LEVELS 8 & 9 – BLACK LEVEL are exploring the whole mountain including black diamond runs and working on advanced techniques and tactical approaches to riding bigger terrain and creating a variety of turn shapes for specific conditions like powder, crud, steep terrain and high speed arcing on the groomed runs. This skier/rider is comfortable with all types of snow conditions and off-piste terrain (off the groomed runs).

Multi week lessons Levels Ski:

Levels 1- are 1st Timers. They cannot come to a stop on their own. They learn in the Adult Beginner area and/or on the Magic Carpet, while learning the basics of balancing and gliding on snow.

Level 2- are learning to balance, slow and stop. They take their first rides on the beginner chair lift after mastering the Adult Beginner area and/or the Magic Carpet area.

Level 3- can ski in a wedge, turn left, right and make complete stops. They can ride the beginner chairlift with confidence and are getting ready to take their first rides on the Chinook Chair lift with the run Tinkerbell in mind.

Level 4- are starting to match their skis to make parallel turns on easier greens like the bottom of tinkerbell and the meadow. These skiers are learning to make different sizes of turns to give them the tactics and tools to ski the harder green run like Queens run.

Level 5- are primarily skiing parallel turns. They have mastered the all of the green runs and are starting to explore some blues. These skiers will be working on varying turn shapes to adapt their technique to match the steeper and more varying terrain of the blue intermediate runs.

Level 6- These skiers can change direction at will and have mastered the Blue cruisers and are starting. They are starting to use their edges more aggressively and are starting to ski off of bumps and small jumps. They are working toward learning to carve their skis and tactics to skiing the bumps that are created by the end of the day on the groomed runs.

Level 7- are starting to challenge the easy black groomed runs and skiing in the bumps, powder and crud of the easier non groomed runs. These skiers are starting to have their ski boots fit more accurately to improve their edging, pressuring and turning of their skis. They are working toward carving the skis and skiing a little faster with more aggression than their Blue groomer skiing counter parts. They are learning the techniques and tactics for confidence at higher speeds and control in steeper terrain.

Level 8- are challenging the blacks and starting to ski the double blacks. They are skiing in all conditions and terrain. They are carving it up on the Blue cruisers and are learning tactics and techniques to skiing in the fall line in bumps, crud and powder. On good days they are learning to challenge the steeper terrain of Chair 6 and the Northway chair.

Level 9- are skiers that are at the top of the food chain. They can ski in all conditions and terrain. They are hiking the backcountry for powder shots and skiing fast down the fall line in the bumps. These are the skiers that leave trenches on the groomed runs and beautiful linked arcs in the powder. These skiers are constantly tweaking their gear and their technique to master the art of skiing.

Multi week lessons Levels Snowboard:

Level 1- are 1st Timers.

Level 3- can turn both toe and heel edge and stop confidently. They can ride the beginner chairlift with confidence and are getting ready to take their first rides on the Chinook Chair lift with the run Tinkerbell in mind.

Level 4- Can ride on Tinkerbell (easy green) confidently and are mastering Queens run (harder green). Boarders at this level are starting to make turns of varying sizes and shapes to adapt to terrain changes and the need to change direction at will.

Level 5- Can ride on the blue runs. They are mastering the art of Carving and buttering the snow board combined with many turn shapes. They are starting to catch a little air, butter their board from toe to heel and back again and carve from turn to turn. These boarders are also starting to venture off trail in good conditions.

Level 6- Can ride the entire mountain including the black terrain. These riders are working on freestyle moves, ripping powder, riding bumps and crud and are starting to adventure into the backcountry.
