It’s been a busy summer!  Several improvements were made to increase guest satisfaction this winter and beyond.  We invested a little over $1.5 million on the following projects:

Upper Plaza – Expanded Heated Pavers & Replaced Stairs

The upper plaza around Right Angle Sports and the entrance to the Day Lodge was upgraded with heated pavers and metal grate stairs so you’ll no longer be sloshing around in half melted snow once you click out of your skis.

Patio Umbrella – Music Series & Additional 150 Covered Seats

The Sundeck in front of the Day Lodge will now be covered with a large umbrella providing 150 more covered seats, complete with heaters.  When the lodge is full during lunchtime you now have another option.  On nice days we’ll roll up the umbrella so you can soak up the sun (after all it’s still called the ‘Sundeck’).  There will also be live music every Saturday from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m making the Sundeck the hottest new Après spot around!  Stay tuned for an awesome lineup.

RV Lot – Upgraded Power & Added 30 New Sites

For those of you who consider ‘B lot’ your home away from home, we’ve added 30 new 50/30 amp sites along the southwest bank.  They are spaced out to allow for bigger RV’s with slide-outs.  This is in addition to the existing 42 30 amp sites, making for a total of 72 electrical sites!  There will be no increase in rates, all power sites will remain $35 per night and are available on a first-come basis (except during the holidays).

Lodge Remodel – Refreshed the Look

New pine wainscoating was added to the walls along with a fresh coat of paint.  Also thanks to some local photographers (Scott Rickenberger, Ian Coble, Jason Hummel, Chris Morin, Andrew Longstreth and Frank Shine) we also added some new art to admire as you dine.  We’ve also classed up the Chinook Cafe with a new slab granite counter and added several more beer taps.  Beer and wine will be served in a glass (no more plastic cups) and a server will deliver drinks to your table.

Snowsports School – New Registration Office

The Snowsports School registration desk will no longer be mixed with the Rental Shop.  All Snowsports School sales and registration will take place in the former Mountain Shop.  With the bigger space we’ve added 6 new point-of-sale stations and will be able process registration much quicker.  Online registration will also be available for all daily lesson programs beginning November 1st.

Rental Shop – New Layout & Equipment

We’ve completely reconfigured the layout of the Rental Shop to create a better flow and quicker rental times.  But that’s not all.  We’ve upgraded the ski and snowboard rental fleet to include all new state-of-the-art Rossignol skis, ski boots, snowboards and snowboard boots!

Brush Cutting – Trimmed Up

There’s been a team of four full-time guys trimming brush and limbing trees since June.  They started in the Employee Housing/Niagras area and have worked their way across to Berry Patch and Exterminator ending in Memorial Forest.  This effort will continue next summer also.

Webcams – More Distractions While You Work

Two new webcams (top of Chair 6 and Base Area) were added over the summer making for a total of 6 cameras to keep you distracted at work.  Your boss doesn’t have to know, it’s our little secret. Bookmark this page: http://www.crystalmountainresort.com/the-mountain/webcams/

Snow Making – New Snow Gun

Last year we added two new Super Polecat Snow Guns, and we recently added one more.  This increases our snow making ability in the Discovery Meadow area up to the Quicksilver-Tinkerbell merge.  We now have a total of 8 snow guns.  Stay tuned for details on our big snow making expansion in 2017.

Road Paving – Smooth Ride

Pierce County has spent the past two summers repaving the access road, upgrading the bridges, securing the rock slide areas and installing new guardrails.  The $11 million project will be completed at the end of summer 2016 resulting in a fresh and smooth ride up the 6 miles access road.  You’ll feel like you’re flying, just remember to obey the speed limit and watch for elk.

Bootworks – New Location

Your favorite boot fitters will now be located in their own space, where the Mountain Market used to be.  The new space will be dedicated exclusively to custom boot fitting.  There will no longer be a Mountain Market however the Cascade Grill will expand their options to include more snacks, candy, beverages and some essentials.
