Last riders of Rex Recap
We sent off Rex the right way.
Since 1988, Rainier Express (REX) has been the lift that took us higher. It was not only a way up the mountain. It was the start of powder days, bluebird mornings, and the lift where you'd come down saying, “I just went to the summit for the first time!" This lift marked more than just access to great terrain. It was a testament to pushing the limit for skiers and riders as they worked their way up the mountain.
Over the weekend, REX had the sendoff it truly deserved. Stories were shared, old friends reunited, and new ones raised a toast to all the unforgettable moments REX created. The camaraderie was strong, and the memories ran deep.
Now, after nearly four decades of service, REX is officially retiring. As we look back with gratitude, we also look ahead with excitement. In its place, a new high-speed detachable quad by Leitner-Poma will be installed. Disassembly is already underway, with completion set for December 2025.
Despite the lift's construction, summer will still be in full swing! Starting May 23rd, guests can still enjoy the Mount Rainier Scenic Gondola, Flying Raven Adventure Course, hiking trails, the climbing wall, and more. The mountain remains very much alive with possibility.
REX may be gone, but its spirit lives on in every run, ride, and memory made on this mountain. Here's to the next chapter and to the lift that helped write so many pages of our story.
