Meet the avalanche dog team and learn how they keep the mountain safe!
Have you seen some fluffy friends running around the mountain on your visit to Crystal? Our Cascade Mountain Rescue Dogs (CMRD) non-profit program has been active for nearly 30 years. Since the start, our professional ski patrollers have trained search dogs as an additional resource during avalanche response. The dogs are trained to find human scent under the snow!
If you have been curious about what they do and want to learn more, this is for you! The dog team invites you to join them and their dogs for an hour of education. Open to all ages, we will learn how handlers keep their dogs safe in such a dynamic environment, what these skills look like in training, what to expect when interacting with a working dog, and more!

Schedule:
Handlers and dogs will arrive at the base area at 11:00 a.m. for obedience training demos, Q&A, tips & tricks for riding in an area with working dogs, discussions about each dog’s personality and skill set, and photos until noon.
Weather and emergency calls may impact this event.
Important Notes:
Please be respectful and help set the dogs up for success: do not approach or distract the dogs by yelling, barking, or calling their names. Distraction and skiing too close to the dogs are major safety concerns for the working team. Please give the dogs plenty of space and slow down when skiing past a team. A ski edge to a dog’s leg from skiing too close or colliding with a dog can cause a cut that can result in a career-ending injury. rich-text, responsive-table
